Darrow Mustafa P.C. is looking to hire an experienced Patent Prosecution Attorney.

This attorney would be tasked with procuring patents in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Candidates with a degree in electronics, software, controls, or electro-mechanical arts are strongly preferred. 

The candidate should have at least five (5) years of experience, superior academic credentials, and have very strong writing skills.  In this position, the attorney will work on a wide range of interesting technologies for premium corporate clients.

Darrow Mustafa PC is seeking an entry level paralegal for IP Docketing Department.  

Applicants should have a paralegal degree, paralegal certificate or be currently enrolled in a paralegal program. 

Duties will include: entering and updating matters in our docket system; processing all incoming mail/correspondence for patent docketing purposes; including mail and downloading emails and faxes; forwarding to the appropriate person for action; ensuring all filings are accounted for against daily docket reports; updating and distributing regular tracking reports.

Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office, including Excel, is required. Experience with basic USPTO procedures or Anaqua Software is a plus. The ideal candidate will:

This is a full time position.  However, the firm will consider applicants that are working toward a paralegal degree and make adjustments to the work schedule to accommodate a candidate’s class schedule.   Although this is an entry level position, the firm’s goal is to provide training and guidance and help the person in the position develop into an experienced IP Docketing Specialist.

 

Darrow Mustafa P.C. is looking to hire a Technical Advisor.                                                                                                                                

 Applicants will be a Ph.D. student or graduate for full-time or part-time employment for a position as a “Technical Advisor” in the areas of computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, controls engineering, or physics to assist in procuring patents.  No prior experience in patent law is required.  Over time, Darrow Mustafa will train the candidate to be a patent agent. 

The position will involve assisting patent attorneys in (1) writing patent applications on new technologies, (2) responding to arguments from The United States Patent and Trademark Office relating to whether the technology sought to be patented is new and non-obvious over already known public domain technologies, and (3) determining whether an invention is new and non-obvious by conducting searches of public domain technologies.  

The candidate must be an excellent writer as the position involves substantial writing.  The candidate will have a broad understanding of electrical, computer, and/or optics scientific concepts.  Darrow Mustafa does a lot of work in the areas of automotive, computer software, and medical devices.

Minority and Women Internship for Engineering Students Interested in Patent Law

The Minority and Women Internship Program at Darrow Mustafa PC provides engineering students an opportunity to explore and learn about a career as a patent attorney or agent.

Students will be exposed to patents, the process by which patents are procured, and the enforcement and licensing of patents.  Student will begin to understand the patent application process and learn the steps and procedures required to secure a patent for invention.  Students will be exposed to a variety of technology areas while reviewing inventions submitted by engineers and inventors.  As a part of the process, students will learn to search for prior art and discover how to determine if an invention is patentable. 

This in-depth exposure to the patent process and patent law will allow the student to decide if he or she is interested in a career in patent law. 

  • The paid internship is for 10 to 12 weeks and will take place during the summer at our office located in Northville, MI.

  • Students must be enrolled in an engineering program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • The internship is open to Juniors and Seniors in an undergraduate program and graduate students.

  • Students with a background in computer engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science are preferred. 

  • Women and Minorities are encouraged to apply.

  • The pay will vary for the internship will vary based on experience and education level, but will generally be $22/hour for undergraduates.
